Workers of a garment factory put up barricade for an hour at the Bayezid area in the city yesterday demanding payment of allowances, arrears and bonuses.

Witnesses said some 30 workers of a garment factory, Siemens Fashion Limited, at city's Bayezid area came out from the factory at around 9:30am and tried to block the road demanding immediate payment of allowances of current month, arrears of over time of last two months and bonuses.

After a few minutes the workers scattered when a police force appeared the spot reportedly being informed by the garment authority.

But they organised about hundred workers of the factory and put up barricade at the Bayezid Road at 10:30am that created huge congestion on both side of the busy road.

The workers withdrew the barricade at 11:30am after a successful meeting among the garment authority, workers and police, said the sources.

Manik, a worker of the garment, said they withdrew the barricade after the authorities assured them to meet their demand before Eid-ul-Fitr.
