RU teacher gets death threat for second time

Zulfiker Ahmed, a lecturer of Law and Justice Department, said the same caller, who identified himself as Abdul Halim, a 3rd year honours student of the same department, also gave threat him over phone on August 6 demanding his resignation from the department.

Zulfiker yesterday lodged a general diary (GD) with Motiher Police Station in this connection yesterday. He also filed a GD with the same police station following the death threats on August 6.

There is no student named Abdul Halim in the department.

Zulfiker yesterday told The Daily Star that the caller asked him at about 11.30am to resign immediately form the department, otherwise, they would kill him like other teachers murdered recently.

The same caller threatened to kill him again at about 12:00 noon for informing the matter to journalists, police and university authorities.

The teacher yesterday also informed the matter to vice chancellor, registrar, proctor and other university high authorities seeking security of life.

Zulfiker did not take his scheduled classes following the threat.

Department teachers and students and employees expressed concern over the incident and urged the university authorities to ensure Zulfiker's security on the campus.

Zulfiker told this correspondent that he can't move freely on the campus fearing attack by the caller.

Earlier, Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) with the help of outsiders enforced a day-long strike in university demanding removal of Zulfiker from the department for what they said 'his immoral activities'.
