Saarc paediatric surgeons' confce begins in Ctg

State Minister for Health Mizanur Rahman Sinha inaugurated the three-day conference at the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB).
The Association of Paediatric Surgeons of Bangladesh (APSB) in cooperation with the health ministry organised the conference, aiming to transfer technology and expertise for effective treatment of children with congenital malformations in South Asian countries.
The World Health Organisation and United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (Unicef) have extended support and cooperation to the conference, sources said.
The theme of the conference is 'Committed Together for Better Future'.
As part of the conference, a Live Paediatric Laparoscopic Workshop was held on December 6 and 7 while another live workshop on hyposadias surgery will be held on December 11 and 12.
Over 500 delegates, including 250 from abroad, are taking part in the conference.
As many as 18 renowned paediatric surgeons and international faculties from the USA, Spain, Australia, Germany, Singapore, Malaysia, Hungary, Japan, Italy, India and Pakistan have joined the workshop and conference as resource persons.
Besides, Prof Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Prof Shafiqul Haq, Prof AFM Mashood, Prof Sajjadur Rahman, Prof Quazi Quamruzzaman, Prof Kabirul Islam and Prof Tahmina Banu are also among the resource persons.
The paediatric surgeons operated on 12 children from different districts during the two-day laproscopic workshop held at the CMCH Paediatric Surgery Department.
At the inaugural ceremony of the conference, Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) President and Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Prof MA Hadi and BMA Vice-President Dr AKM Azizul Haq were present as special guests while APSB President Prof Kabirul Islam presided.
