Satkhira lawyers boycott court

Over two hundred lawyers brought out a procession that paraded the court areas.

They also held a rally in front of the Bar Association building with its President Advocate Tapan Kumar Chakraborty in the chair.

It was addressed among others by Advocates Shah Alam, Abdur Rouf, Farida Akhtar Banu, Osman Gani, Zahangir Kabir and Zahid Al Mahmud.

The speakers said the government is shifting the court when it is enacting laws for speedy trial of pending cases.

So there is no need to shift the court from here as there are over 900 cases pending with the court for trial, they added.

The speakers demanded immediate withdrawal of the decision.

They also threatened to launch tougher agitation to press home their demand.

The agitated lawyers also announced their two-day programme including a press conference for today and token hunger strike for tomorrow.
