The Supreme Court yesterday cancelled an order that had stayed a High Court order granting ad-interim bail to Dr Rawshan Alam, a former BNP lawmaker, who was convicted for life term in Shahjahan Hawladar Sujan murder case.

After hearing an appeal petition filed by Dr Rawshan, an Appellate Division bench of Chief Justice Syed JR Mudassir Husain passed the order.

Sujan, elected twice as lawmaker from Banchharampur of Brahmanbaria from BNP, was abducted from Dhaka and killed on July 3, 2001.

The Speedy Trial Tribunal-4, Dhaka sentenced Dr Rawshan to life imprisonment in the case.

A HC bench comprising Justice Abdur Rashid and Justice Syed Refat Ahmed, on May 10, granted an ad-interim bail to Dr Rawshan in this case.

Following a government appeal, an Appellate Division bench then stayed the High Court order.

Advocate TH Khan moved for Dr Rawshan before the court.
