SC hearing on CEC's appeal adjourned until Thursday

On January 4, the High Court in its judgement on two writ petitions filed by Awami League General Secretary MA Jalil and two of his party lawmakers had asked the Election Commission (EC) to update the electoral roll based on the existing one.

Dr Kamal Hossain, counsel for the writ petitioners, concluded his arguments while Khondker Mahbubuddin Ahmed, representing the CEC, made his reply to his opponent.

Meanwhile, the hearing of the contempt of court charge facing four top secretaries, including Kamal Uddin Siddiqui, principal secretary to the prime minister, could not take place as the court hours exhausted with the hearing on the CEC's appeal.

The five-member full bench headed by Chief Justice Syed JR Mudassir Husain deferred the hearing to May 21.
