Second unit of Japan-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital opens

"A massive development will take place in the health sector if internationally renowned physicians and local doctors work together. This will also help people to get modern treatment in the country," he said inaugurating the second unit of Japan-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital (JBFH) at Dhanmondi in the city yesterday.

Referring to the objection of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) to the practice of foreign doctors in the country, Khan said time has come to rethink about it. "If renowned foreign doctors get opportunity to do medical practice here, Bangladesh citizens will feel discouraged to go abroad for treatment and consequently it will help save foreign currency."

He emphasized foreign and local investment in the health and medical treatment in the private sector.

Praising the medical services being rendered by the Japan-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital for last 12 years, the Foreign Minister urged the hospital authorities to use modern technology in the treatment and maintain its reputation.

Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka Matsushiro Horiguchi, cardiac surgeon of Escorts Heart Institute of India Dr Naresh Trihan, and chairman, department of surgery at Japan Saitama Medical College and president of AMDA-International Japan Dr Shigeru Suganami spoke at the function as special guests.

Chaired by chief consultant surgeon of JBFH Prof Matiur Rahman, the function was also addressed by consultant Laparoscopic surgeon Dr Sarder Nayeem and pain specialist Dr Jonaid Shafiq.
