Shiva Lingas, brazen statues seized

Two Shiva lingas, made of touchstone and marble stone, and two brazen statues worth Tk 5 lakh were recovered and three thieves held from Anowara upazila in the district on Tuesday night.

A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police recovered the religious as well as archaeological statues from a pond at Talshara village, sources said.

Acting on a tip-off, the DB men in the guise of customers held three members of a well-organised syndicate of statue thieves from the city's Bakshirhat area under Kotwali in the evening.

They were identified as Md Hanif, 50, Md Yusuf, 28, and Chandan Chakrabarty, 40.

On information extracted from them, a police team led by Assistant

Commissioner AKM Mosharraf Hossain Miajee recovered one touchstone made Shiva linga weighing 15 Kg, one marble stone made Shiva linga weighing 5 Kg and two brazen statues from Anowara later in the night.
