Sit-in in front of energy ministry October 19

National Committee to Protect Oil-Gas-Mineral Resources and Port will observe a sit-in programme in front of the Energy Ministry in the city on October 19 in order to force the government to implement the Phulbari agreement and oust Asia Energy from the country after realising the compensation.

Besides, a representative meeting of the National Committee will be held at Phulbari in Dinajpur today to initiate movement against the conspiracy of multi-national companies like Asia Energy. Representatives from 16 districts in north Bengal region will join the meeting, the committee said.

Leaders and activists of the National Committee yesterday announced the programmes at a rally at Muktangan in the city.

Criticising BNP-Jamaat alliance government, they said people of Phulbari would not forgive the four-party alliance government if it does not implement the agreement.

"Now time has come to enact new law banning export of coal, gas and oil. People will not tolarate any conspiracy against these resources," said Engineer Sheikh Muhammad Shahidullah, convener of the National Committee while addressing the rally.

Among others, Communist Party leader Muzahidul Islam Selim and leaders of the National Committee, including Tipu Biswas, Ruhin Hossain Prince, Bajlur Rashid Firoz, Moshrefa Mishu, Advocate Abdus Salam and Zonayed Saki also addressed.
