The Foreign Ministry yesterday confirmed that Mir Wais who was gunned down at a mosque in Helmand province of Afghanistan on Monday was not a Bangladeshi.

Some news agencies reported from Kandahar that the slain man was a Bangladeshi.

Bangladesh Ambassador based in Tashkent who is concurrently accredited to Afghanistan took up the matter with Afghan authorities to ascertain the authenticity of the report.

After thorough investigations Afghan authorities officially informed him that Mir Wais was not a Bangladeshi. He was found to be an Afghan.

However, one Fazlul Haq holding Bangladesh Passport no.W0749961, died in an accident. He was an employee of a Korean company, SAMWHAN Corporation. He was working as a Laboratory Technician Helper of the company.

A piece of heavy stone fell on him from a hilltop while he was inspecting the construction of a project. He was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. His body will be sent in to Bangladesh soon at the company's expense.

The Bangladesh Ambassador requested the company to give "adequate compensation" to the family of late Fazlul Haq.
