Special programmes on Bangabandhu demanded

Some hundred leaders and activists thronged in front of the National Museum and started marching towards the National Broadcasting Centre at Shahbagh in the city to submit the memorandum, but police intercepted them at Shahbagh intersection.

Fifteen leaders, headed by its president and general secretary, went to the Centre and submitted the memorandum.

They also held a protest rally and cultural programmes in front of the museum.

Addressing the rally as the chief guest, AL Presidium Member Amir Hossain Amu said the national broadcasting organisations do not air programmes on the architect of the country's independence Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the BNP-Jamaat tenure.

The Jote leaders said the state-run broadcasting organisations do not portray Bangabandhu with due respect even on the country's national days.

They also said they often try to underrate Bangabandhu's contribution in the liberation war.

They urged the concerned authorities to broadcast programmes on radio and television on the occasion of 31st death anniversary of Bangabandhu and the National Mourning Day.

AL Joint General Secretary Obaidul Kader, Jote President Salauddin Badal, General Secretary Sheikh Abdul Kader and other leaders Mahmud Selim, Dr Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Golam Quddus, Kazi Abu Jafar Siddique and Dr Dilip Roy were also present.
