Residents of Aliganj laid a siege to Fatullah Police Station in Narayanganj yesterday to protest the arrest and torture of a Sramik League leader by the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).

The elite force nabbed Kawsar Ahmed Palash , 35, president of Fatullah Sramik League, on Thursday when he was returning home after offering Fajr prayers at Aliganj Jame Masjid and handed him over to the Fatullah Police yesterday afternoon.

His family alleged that the Rab has tortured Palash brutally in its custody.

Protesting his arrest, Sramik League leaders and activists held a rally at No. 2 Rail gate area in the town yesterday.

The speakers condemned the harassment of opposition leaders and workers in a planned way.

Police said Palash is an accused in 43 cases, including murder case.
