An education body of Awami League (AL) at a meeting yesterday slammed the BNP-Jamaat coalition government for distorting the history of the Liberation War and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in textbooks.

The Education and Human Resource Development Sub-committee in a resolution asked the government for inscription of the undistorted facts and history of the War of Liberation in the textbooks to let the new generation know about it.

AL Education Secretary Nurul Islam Nahid presented reports on distortion of history in textbooks, selling of textbooks in black markets and movements against uni-track education system in the meeting.

Presided over by Sub-Committee Chairman Prof Dr A K Azad Chowdhury, the meeting was held at the office of AL Chairperson in Dhanmondi.

The speakers put some recommendations after discussion on the reports.

They blamed the concerned minister, state minister and officials for looting Tk 500 crore of the project for the uni-track education system and asked for action against those involved in looting the project's fund.

They also demanded cancellation of the so-called uni-track education system.

Besides, the meeting in a resolution demanded reinstatement of non-government teachers and their demands including payment of 100 percent of their salary and festival bonus.
