Stop killing of innocent people

"After taking the solemn oath to uphold the Constitution, Khaleda is violating it at every step and killing people in crossfire without trial," said Hasina when Rabeya Khatun, wife of slain Jubo League leader Masudur Rahman Iman Ali, met her at Sudha Sadan residence in the city yesterday.

Iman Ali was killed in 'crossfire' with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Savar on March 9.

Hasina, also Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, asked the prime minister what was the fault of Iman Ali and who will take the responsibility of this distressed family.

"Please stop this game of killing and bloodshed," the AL chief urged the prime minister.

Hasina said Rab was formed to create panic among the people to prolong the misrule of present regime.

She said the prime minister is killing people in one hand and increasing their sufferings by increasing the price of everything on the other hand.

The opposition leader said Iman Ali along with the villagers at Savar went to resist illegal occupation of land by one cousin of the state minister for home and this is why he had to give his life.

"They are piling up illegal wealth through corruption and killing," she added.

Hasina also condemned the police atrocities on the opposition workers and pedestrians during the programme to lay siege to Election Commission office on Sunday.

She said it is the democratic right of people to enforce hartal to protest the misdeeds of the government.

But the alliance government wants to halt the democratic rights of people by torturing the oppositions using the police, she added.

AL leaders Obaidul Quader, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Mirza Azam, Hasinadaula, Murad Jong, Benjir Ahmed, Ali Haider, Abdul Gani, Pervez Dewan, Dulal Jong and Masud Chowdhury were present on the occasion.
