Strategic planning on vaccination stressed

Speakers at a seminar yesterday stressed the need for strategic planning on vaccination of Avian Influenza that caused serious damage to the country's poultry industry recently.

Bengal Overseas Ltd organised the seminar titled 'Prevention and Control Strategy of Avian Influenza' at a city hotel.

Speaking on the occasion as the special guest, Syed Ataur Rahman, secretary to the ministry of fisheries and livestock, said, "We are mulling over the vaccination but it needs more strategic planning as the vaccination programme did not succeed in many countries".

He also urged all to give their input and suggestions in respect of vaccination to save the poultry industry.

Dr Rik Koopman, poultry scientist of Intervet International B.V., The Netherlands, discussed in detail about the vaccination.

Syed Rezaul Karim, chairman of Bengal Overseas, also spoke at the seminar.
