Strike at Gazipur factories today

The worker was killed on May 20 when the police opened fire on agitating workers demanding wage hike.

In a statement yesterday, President of the forum Mosharefa Mishu and General Secretary Komol Debnath urged all garments workers to make the strike a success.

They also called on the factory authorities to meet the demands of the workers.

At a protest rally on Sunday, the forum leaders condemned the police firing and placed a seven-point demand.

The demands includes immediate action against the factory owners and policemen involved in the killing, withdrawal of false cases against workers, compensation to the families of those killed or injured and immediate release of the workers.

Meanwhile, Five-Left Party held a rally at Muktangan in the city in protest against the killing of the garments worker.

The party will enforce a dawn-to-dusk hartal at Gazipur today.
