The request came when newly appointed Greek Ambassador to Bangladesh John Economides presented credentials to the President at Bangabhaban yesterday.

During the meeting with the New Delhi-based Greek Ambassador, Iajuddin suggested that Greek companies could recruit more Bangladeshi seamen for their ships.

Expressing happiness at the steady growth of exports to Greece in the recent years, he said the two countries have great potentials for trade, which is yet to be harnessed for mutual benefit.

He assured the new ambassador of all possible support in discharging his duties and hoped that the existing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Greece would be strengthened and expanded during his tenure.

He also reiterated the government's commitment to establish good governance, rule of law and create a congenial atmosphere for dialogue among the political leaders.

Bangladesh has a good future, Economides said and underscored the need for direct flight between the two countries and the necessity of opening the Greek Mission in Bangladesh.

He also emphasised cooperation between the two countries in the field of education.

Earlier, on arrival at Bangabhaban, the envoy was given a guard of honour by the Presidents Guard Regiment (PGR).

Foreign Secretary Hemayet Uddin, Military Secretary to the President Maj Gen ANM Muniruzzaman, Secretary to the President Abu M Maniruzzaman Khan and Press Secretary M Mukhlesur Rahman Chowdhury were present on the occasion.
