Supreme Court reopens today

After the reopening, the Supreme Court is likely to remain busy with hearing some important as well as 'politically sensational' cases pending with different benches of the High Court and Appellate Division, court sources said.

Some of the important cases are: (1) Contempt of court against four top bureaucrats, including the PM's Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Uddin Siddiqui, for non-compliance of the Supreme Court directives on separation of the judiciary from the executive; (2) Contempt of court against CEC Justice MA Aziz with regard to preparation of electoral roll ahead of 2007 general election; and (3) Termination of contractual appointment of Cabinet Secretary ASM Abdul Halim for his alleged involvement in political activities in violation of service rules to get ruling BNP ticket in the next general election.
