Take action against those disrupting bus service

They also called for legal action against the transport owners who are disrupting the state-run bus services in different districts.

Using the party banner, a section of transport owners, particularly private bus owners' associations, often enforce unreasonable strikes on different routes to oppose the BRTC bus service, causing immense suffering to passengers, said the leaders of BRTC employees' union at a press conference in the city.

In fact, the owners' syndicate wants to make more profit by raising bus fares, said union leader Minhazul Islam. So, they are trying to weaken the BRTC bus service, he added.

He also demanded resumption of double-decker bus service of the BRTC in northern districts.

The union leaders said the double-decker bus service in northern region has been suspended under the pressure from the so-called syndicate and this syndicate is now continuing a strike in the region to press for its demand for withdrawal of the BRTC bus service.

This syndicate even forced the BRTC to stop its services in southern region, they added.

The leaders demanded import of new buses for expansion of BRTC service across the country and action against those who humiliated passengers of BRTC buses during their travel.

They also threatened to stage a demonstration in front of the High Court on May 17 if the government does not meet their demands within 24 hours.

Union leaders Pravash Chandra Mandal, Abdul Matin, Borhan Uddin and Sikander Abu Zafar were present at the press conference.
