Tale of agonised parents
Fearing social stigma, the parents of a newborn physically challenged baby girl at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital desperately tried to keep her in a rehabilitation centre but did not find any such centre willing to accept her.
Finally the parents returned to their village home in Munshiganj yesterday with their daughter born with deformed hands and legs.
Mina Rani, 25, of Panchashar village under Munshiganj district, gave birth to her daughter at gynaecology department on May 29.

Mina at the DMCH said, "People of my village will blame me for her."
Mina's husband Profulla Chandra Mondol expressed his anxiety saying that the infant is physically challenged and moreover a girl.
They also wanted to rehabilitate the baby in an orphanage.
DMCH social welfare officials said they also tried to help the parents in this regard but failed.
