Three killed in cab-covered van collision
In Chittagong, a covered van collided with a taxicab on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Mastannagar in Mirersarai upazila yesterday, killing two passengers of the taxicab on the spot and injuring its driver, according to our Chittagong correspondent.
The injured taxicab driver, Shafiqul Islam, succumbed to his injuries on the way to Mastannagar Hospital.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. The taxicab passengers, who died on the spot, are Imtiaz Alam Chowdhury alias Bappi, 30, and Zahirul Alam, 30. Imtiaz hailed from Bangla Bazar under Double Mooring Police Station in the port city while Zahirul from Barkal under Satkania upazila of Chittagong.
The bodies were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Our staff correspondent from Khulna adds: Ruling party lawmaker M Nurul Islam and two others were injured in a road accident in Kashiany upazila of Gopalganj yesterday.
The accident occurred at around 4:00pm when the microbus carrying the BNP MP and two others -- Khulna BNP leader Nazrul Islam Manju and his wife Advocate Sabiha Manju -- from Dhaka to Khulna skidded off the road and fell into a ditch.
They are undergoing treatment at Shandhani Clinic in Khulna city.
