Tipaimukh Dam to cause disastrous effect on environment

They demanded immediate cancellation of the multi-million dollar dam project in order to save the bio-diversity in this region.

The rally was organised by Angikar Bangladesh Foundation, a social movement for human rights development and good governance, at the Shrine Gate of the High Court in the city.

Speakers said the under-construction dam would adversely affect the country and its adjacent areas' ecology, agriculture, biodiversity, navigation, and natural-social-economical catastrophe.

All the rivers in the north-eastern region specially Surma, Kushiara and Meghna will be worst affected that will lead to desertification process in the region.

Out of profit mongering tendency, an influential quarter of India is constructing the dam ignoring the interests of the broader community in the continent.

Presided over by Angikar Executive Director Engr Muhammad Hilal Uddin, the rally was also addressed by the other directors of the organisation.
