The CPA, through the concerned ministry, has already applied to the Japanese government for the grant attaching details of the dredging project, it added.

Implementation of the proposed dredging project will help improve ship berthing at the port, ensure safe ship movement as well as reduce average waiting time at the port, he added.
Economic development of the country is not possible unless the port activities are accelerated through proper management, the CPA chairman said.
Under the proposed project, a 16-kilometre seaway from the Shah Amanat Bridge to the sea point will be dredged so that ships from 9 to 10 metre draft could anchor at the port, the CPA source said.
This will accelerate the process of container handling at the port and thus would help save hundreds or crores of taka every year, it added.
