Tk 1crore GP donation for Pak quake victims
This is part of a Norwegian Kroner 5 million donation made by Telenor, the majority shareholder of GrameenPhone, and some of its affiliates for the earthquake victims.
The donation has already been handed over to the Norwegian Red Cross and it is part of a campaign to raise additional funds to help people in the earthquake affected areas.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and devastation caused by the earthquake in Pakistan. We at GrameenPhone feel it is our duty to stand beside the earthquake affected people of this fellow Saarc country," said Erik Aas, managing director of GrameenPhone.
Telenor affiliates in Pakistan, Thailand and Malaysia have also taken up separate initiatives to help the relief effort.
Telenor Pakistan has already contributed to the relief work by supplying rescue teams with mobile phones to further ease communication. It has also started collecting clothes and blankets to help the victims and each employee has contributed financially.
