Tk 37crore EC grant to improve food security for ultra-poor

The EC has sought for proposals from the non-profit making NGOs to improve the low nutritional status of the ultra-poor people in the country's most vulnerable six northern and north-western districts.

The EC sources said the NGOs, who will apply for the grants, should have documented experience on the successful implementation in food security and poverty alleviation projects.

Dinajpur, Joypurhat and Rangpur to the west of the Jamuna river, and Jmalpur, Netrakona and Sherpur to the east have been selected for implementing the food security project, said the sources.

Individual projects may receive between 1 and 1.5 million Euro. The EC will finance 50 to 90 percent of total project costs while the duration of each project will be between 30 and 36 months.

The last date of proposal submission is July 20. An information session on this call will be organised by the EC on May 25 at BRAC center here, the sources said.
