Tk 80 cr project for dev of haors
Water Resources Minister Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said the government would spend around Tk 80 crore with the support of the World Bank for the development of haors of the country.
"The haor areas are the 'food stores' of Bangladesh. So, the government has taken up the project for the development of haors," he said.
The minister was exchanging views with chairman of the project implementation committees (PICs) of Sunamganj district on Monday at the Sunamganj Circuit House.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. He said the Water Development Board (WDB) spent around Tk 6.62 crore last year for the development of 28 haors in Sunamganj district to protect crops of Tk 400 crore from flashflood.
This year, we have taken initiative to implement the haor development projects in a more effective way, he said, adding that primarily about Tk 4.67 crore has been estimated for the work.
Earlier, he visited the Decar Haor of Sunamganj.
