They also threatened to start an indefinite sit-in in Dhaka on July 31 if their demand goes unheeded.
Education Engineering Department (EED) Engineers' Association, Diploma Engineers' Association and Government Employees' Association jointly staged the demonstration.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. Speaking at the programme, the association leaders said about 231 engineers of the department, who are working at upazila and district levels, have played an important role in building the infrastructure under the education ministry.
Although there is a statutory regulatory order (SRO) that the employees of these projects would be transferred to the revenue sector, their fate is now uncertain due to bureaucratic tangle, they said.
About two months ago, the education minister and the secretary had assured them of considering their demand, but no steps have been taken to this end, the leaders said.
They also announced that they would stage two-hour sit-in at 38 zonal offices and at the head office on July 29 to press their demand.
EED Engineers Association chairman Jasim Uddin, General Secretary Shahin Ahmed Robin, Joint Secretary of Diploma Engineers' Association Altaf Hossain and General Secretary of Government Employees' Association Abdul Kalam Azad spoke at the sit-in programme.
