The fanatical forces have posed a threat to democracy by killing former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria, said his widow Asma Kibria yesterday.

The trial of Kibria must take place for the sake of democracy, she added.

She also called on the countrymen to unite and come forward to press home the demand for trial of the killers of Kibria and others who died in bomb and grenade attacks in the last few years.

Speaking at a human chain programme titled 'Blue for Peace' at Dhanmondi, Asma demanded a fair investigation into the killing of Kibria.

Leaders of different social, political and cultural organisations and people of all walks of life joined the human chain.

President of Dhaka University Teachers' Association AAMS Arefin Siddiqui and former BCL leader Ajoy Kar Khokon were present.

Kibria, also an Awami League leader, was killed in a grenade attack at Habiganj on January 27.
