Two killed in road accidents

Two people were killed and 30 others injured in two separate road accidents in Kishoreganj and Jhenidah yesterday.

A Correspondent from Kishoreganj reports: A man was killed and 30 others injured when a Kishoreganj-bound bus from Dhaka tilted over on Dhaka-Kishoreganj highway at Nandola at Kishoreganj Sadar yesterday afternoon.

The victim was identified as Mohabbat Miah, 40, son of Taju Khan of Charbail village at Nandail in Mymensingh.

The body was sent to Kishoreganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital for autopsy, said SI Alamgir Shajahan of Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station.

The driver of the bus managed to escape, he added.

A correspondent from Jhenidah adds: A septuagenarian cyclist was killed in a road accident at Roghunathpur Bazar at around 7:55am yesterday morning.

The victim was identified as Ansar Ali Kabiraj, 72, son of late Ali Box Kabiraj of Enayetpur village at Kaligonj in the district.

Witnesses said a speeding Jessore-bound passenger bus knocked the cycle Ansar Ali was riding on while he was crossing the road at Roghunathpur bus stand, leaving him dead on the spot.

On information, police rushed to the spot and sent the body to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
