Two shot at city hotel as extortionists spray bullets

The bullet-hit persons were identified as boarder of the hotel Mohammad Milon Mia, 40 and security guard Babul Mia, 41.

Police sources said a group of unknown extortionists stormed into Hotel Gausia, a residential hotel, at around 7:15am and fired indiscriminately at the reception desk.

Babul Mia was shot in his legs, chest and hands.

Milon Mia, who came to Dhaka from Sylhet on Saturday, was shot in his body as he was passing the passage during the incident.

Later, police raided the hotel and recovered 35 bottles of phensidyl from the hotel and arrested three in this connection.

The hotel authorities said they lodged a General Diary (GD) with the New Market Police Station last month for receiving threats from the unidentified criminals for tolls.

Police said drug traders or extortionists might have carried out the incident.

The injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital .
