Leaders of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) yesterday called on the people to unite against the government for its indifferent attitude to the people's suffering caused by the price hike of fuel oil and essentials.

They also called on the people to topple the government in order to save the county from the clutches of imperialism.

The CPB leaders were speaking at a rally at Paltan in the city in support of its September 18 hartal.

Criticising the World Bank and International Monitory Fund, the leaders said the BNP-led four-party alliance government has raised the price of fuel oil as per the prescription of these two organisations.

The government has also decided to increase the transport fare by 11 percent, further pushing up the prices of essentials, said Muzahidul Islam Selim, general secretary of CPB.

He said the government has also closed down many mills and factories, throwing the workers into an uncertain future.

Later, the leaders and activists took out a procession that paraded through different streets.
