Use of words 'Acting President' not correct

"There is no rule of acting or temporary President in the constitution. The press release made by the Bangabhaban office-cum-residence of the President mentioning Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar as Acting President is not correct," he said.

The Law Minister said it is not clear in the constitution whether President Prof Dr Iajuddin Ahmed or President in-charge Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar will get the official protocol and flag.

"The matters of official protocol and flag to the President are not mentioned in the constitution. The matter of protocol is maintained by the protocol office. I cannot make comments on this matter," he said.

He was addressing the monthly press conference on Legal and Judicial Capacity Building Project of his ministry at the conference room of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry.

Barrister Moudud said Prof Dr Iajuddin Ahmed is the President of country as per the constitution and there is no scope of debate and confusion about the office of the President.

"Speaker Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar is discharging duties as the Bharprapta President (President in-charge), as President Prof Dr Iajuddin Ahmed is physically unfit to discharge his duties. Those who are raising questions and disputing about holding the office of the President are intentionally doing it to derive political mileage," he said.

Replying to a question, Barrister Moudud said that as per constitution, Speaker Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar is looking after the routine file work of the President.

Barrister Moudud said the present government has brought a number of pragmatic steps in the judicial system and achieved a tremendous success in modernising the case management and judicial system.

"We have already provided legal aid without any cost or at minimum cot to at least 30,000 poor people of the country. The cases pending in the different courts across the country are being disposed of at a minimum cost," he said.
