Voter list abounds with fake voters in Rangpur

Many people complained that though they filled up voter registration forms their names were not in the list.

Sadrul Alam Dulu, president of Rangpur Press Club, said none of his family was listed in the voter list.

Prothom Alo Staff Correspondent Ariful Hoque Ruzu said he collected voter registration forms yesterday as many of his relatives were not enlisted in the list.

Sources at District Election Commission Office said a total of 3,16,445 new voters were enlisted in the district this time.

The total number of voters stands at 18, 83,668 while it was 15, 67,223 in the list prepared in 2001.

The rate of increase of voters in the district is abnormal, said a reliable source.

Rangpur unit President of Hindu-Bouddha-Christian Oikya Parishad Bonomali Paul told this correspondent that many people belonging to minority community were excluded from the voter list.

"I cannot tell the exact number of complainants right now as a lot of them are still coming to me from different places of the district," he added.
