Woman beaten to death for alleged mugging at city puja mandap

The victim was identified as Selina Akhter, 19, who hailed from Ujirpur in Barisal.

Selina was beaten severely when she allegedly attempted to snatch an ear-ring of a visiting woman at the puja mandap at around 7.45pm, sources said.

Police rescued Selina from the mob and took her to Kotwali Police Station where she claimed herself innocent.

She repeatedly got faint at the police station urging the police to set her free.

Police sent her to Mitford Hospital where the doctors declared her dead at 10.40pm, hospital sources said.

The postmortem of the body was completed yesterday.

None came to take the body from the morgue as of filing this report at 8.00pm.

Kotwali police said a general diary was lodged in this regard.

As per the statement of the woman, police informed Ujirpur thana to inform her father Yusuf Miah.
