Workers demand reopening of silk factory
As there has been no budgetary allocation for re-opening of Rajshahi Silk Factory, some 100 of its workers staged a sudden demonstration in front of Rajshahi City Mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu's Bhadra residence.
The agitators started gathering on Minu's residence premises at 6:00am and stayed there for three hours.
They chanted slogans demanding their unpaid salaries, re-opening of the factory and protested bid to hand over silk factory lands to political persons.

Since its closure in 2003, over a thousand workers lost jobs, they said.
Mayor Minu, also a local lawmaker, came out of his residence at around 9:00am and assured them of opening the factory within a few days.
