11 sued for corruption in Satkhira

The Anti-corruption Bureau on Sunday filed a case with Satkhira thana accusing 11 persons on charge of misappropriating government fund amounting to 88 lakh taka.

The accused are: Former civil surgeon of Satkhira Dr Abu Yusut Mia (now assistant director, Health Ministry), former land acquisition officer Jobed Ali (now senior assistant secretary, Ministry of Health), Surgery Consultant Dr Sharif Jahangir Atiq, Dr Rejanul Haq, Dr Syed Mobarak Ali, former deputy director of Family Planning department Md Hasan Ali and former District Accounts Officer Altaf Hossain and contractors Ashraful Islam, Kazi Abdus Salam, Sheikh Mokarram Ali and another contractor.

Inspector Wazed Ali Gazi filed the case after a primary investigation, police sources said.

According to the FIR, the office of the civil surgeon of Satkhira published tender in 1996 for purchasing furniture for hospitals and upazila health complexes worth 14,53,5,146 taka.

The accused in collaboration with each other purchased furniture worth 57,18450 taka, defalcating the rest amount.
