44 tonnes of green chilli imported in five days

Forty-four tonnes of green chilli were imported from India through Benapole and Bhomra land ports in last five days.

According to sources in the customs department, the first consignment of four tonnes of Indian green chilli reached Benapole land port on July 18. Forty tonnes of green chilli reached Bhomra land port in Satkhira on the same day.

Customs sources said a trader in Jessore imported the green chilli at the rate of 300 US dollars per tonne.

Green chilli was sold at Tk 100 per kilogram in retail markets in Khulna, Bagerhat and Jessore on Thursday.
