5 stripped of Tangail Bar membership
The lawyers are Bazlur Rasheed, Abdur Razzak, Mohammad Kaikobad, Goura Chandra Das and Bodiuzzaman Noyon. Of them, Bazlur Rasheed, Abdur Razzak and Mohammad Kaikobad are government prosecutors. Among them, Bodiuzzaman Noyon was a life member of the Bar Association.
The decision was taken at an urgent meeting held at the Bar Association office in the afternoon.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. Earlier, the Dhaka University (DU) authorities, in a letter sent to the Association confirmed the matter on Sunday. Graduation certificates of two of the lawyers were also found to be fake. The meeting also decided to sue them.
A senior lawyer and former president of the Association, seeking anonymity told this correspondent 20 more lawyers are suspected to be holding fake certificates.
When contacted, the general secretary of the Association Advocate Shahidul Islam Hashem said they asked the Bangladesh Bar Council to cancel their testimonials.
