AL vows to try culprits in people's court

'We do not expect getting justice during the tenure of this government. When the pro-liberation forces return to power, trial of all these incidents will be done in the peoples' court'.

Speakers said this at a condolence meeting held here to mark the second death anniversary Awami League (AL) publicity secretary Md Ibrahim on Monday night. Md Ibrahim Smriti Sangsad organised the meeting.

The AL leader was killed and 50 others were injured in a grenade attack at Gulshan Centre in the city on August 7, 2004.

Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, also chief of city AL chaired the meeting.

In his address, Kamran said that the BNP-led government wanted to crush AL by killing Sheikh Hasina and other top level leaders of the party. Narrating the grenade and bomb attacks, he said, if voted to power in the next general election his party will ensure trial of the culprits.

The blast victims will get justice, he vowed.

Other speakers blasted the government for failure to arrest the culprits even two years after the blast.

Ex MP Syed Zebunnesa Haque, District AL president ANM Shafique, General secretary Iftekhar Hossain Shamim, district NAP president Syed Abdul Hannan, Jatiya sramik League city unit chief Jafar Chowhury, Samad Azad's son and Among others, AL leader Azizus Samad Don, Ward Commissioner Abdul Khalique, city Juba League chief Syed Shamim Ahmed, General Secretary Abdur Rahman Zamil, Shechchhasevak League president Advocate Sheikh Moklu and General Secretary Advocate Fokhrul Islam, district Chhtara League President Joglu Chowdhury and Ibrahim Smriti Sangsad chief Arman Ahmed Shiplu spoke on the occasion.

The meeting began with recitation from the Holy Quran.

One-minute silence was observed in memory of SAMS Kibria, Ahsan Ullah Master MP, Ivy Rahman, Mohammad Ibrahim and others who were killed in grenade and bomb attacks throughout the country.
