AL won't go to polls without reforms

The ruling parties are reluctant to make the reforms only to cling to power by any means. But people will make them accept the reforms proposed by he 14-party opposition alliance, he told a public meeting at Iswardi bus stand on Thursday.

He called upon the people to intensify the on-going agitation to topple the "corrupt and inefficient" government and foil the rulers' dream to retain power.

With Shamsur Rahman Sharif Dilu MP in the chair, the meeting was addressed by, among others, AL Organizing Secretary Abdul Mannan and central leaders Aktaruzzaman Akter SM Kamal Hossain, Hasan Kabir Arifa and Tangail district leaders Shamsul Haque Tuku, Razaur Rahim Lal and Saidul Haque Chunnu.

Jalil bitterly criticised the government for what he called protecting "criminals and perpetrators of bomb blasts".

The government is making a face-saving probe into the August 17 serial bomb blasts across the country because the perpetrators are linked with a component party in the ruling alliance, he alleged.

The four-party alliance came to power on the back of a polls pledge to control violence and crime. But those increased under its four-year rule because the ruling party men are sheltering criminals.

The August 17 incident shattered the country's image abroad but the government is still sheltering the main culprits behind the incident, the AL leader said.
