Blindness no barrier when spirit knows no bounds

Altaf is now 35. He lost his eyesight in childhood. He could not go to school but did not accept defeat in life. He did not seek any body's help on the plea of being physically challenged.
Altaf's father was a poor farmer in Ramnagor village in Ullapara upazila in Sirajganj district. He was atacked with ophthalmia disease whe he was one and ahalf years.
From boyhood, he started making baskets, mats and other products.
At 20, he married Ranu Begum. Their two sons go to school.
Altaf's wife procures bamboos from different areas. Traders come to their house and buy the products.
The family earns around Tk 5000 a month.
Ranu Begum said, they are happy with the income and their two sons go to school.
Talking to this corresponmdent Altaf said physically challenged people can be self-reliant if trained.
