Civic body in Khulna to press for smooth power supply

A civic body styled Biddut Adhikar Sangram Parishad (BASP) was formed in Khulna city on Friday to start agitation for smooth power supply in the city and in south-western districts.

The body was formed at a meeting held at the office of local daily Dainik Purbanchal with Principal Zafar Imam in the chair.

Zafar Imam has been made joint convenor of the Sangram Parishad. Its other leaders are member secretary Shaikh Abdul Kayyum, and joint convenors Liaquat Ali and Kazi Wahiduzzaman, Azadul Huq, MM Mujibar Rahoman and Shaikh Mosharaf Hossain.

The meeting decided that meeting that BASP will hold a 'grand rally' at Maharaj Square in city on August 5, which will be followed by a procession demanding smooth power supply in south-western region of the country.

Speakers at the meeting urged all political parties, professional groups and civil society members to build up agitation for power supply.

Meanwhile, the Khulna Citizens' Forum (KCF) has postponed its decision taken a week ago to stop payment of electricity bills from august 1 till power crisis is resolved.
