College principal, wife face death threat in Khulna

They have threatened to kill him and his wife Prof Masura Rahman if they fail to pay the toll by 11 pm Wednesday.

Principal Saidul Hasan filed two separate general diaries Tuesday night with Daulatpur and Khulna police stations seeking security of his life and life of his wife and children.

Principal Saidul Hasan said operatives of PBCP Janajuddho are threatening him and his wife with death. They started giving death threats over land and cell phones from 6 pm Tuesday.

"I received death threats twice at 8.15am and 8.30 am today for delaying in paying the toll", he told this correspondent yesterday. "They have set 11 pm today (Wednesday) as deadline to pay it or get ready for death anytime thereafter", the principal stated in his GDs. Police said he was provided with security during movement from his residence at Moulavipara under Khulna thana to college office at Daulatpur.

Similar security has been arranged for his wife Masrura Rahman who is an assistant professor of geography in Khulna Government MM City College.

Meanwhile, teachers BL College have expressed their grave concern over frequent death threats to Prof Saidul Hasan by extremists since Tuesday evening.

They have appealed to the police commissioner to arrest the extremists.
