Em masse resignation if AL man denied ticket inSatkhira-2
Over 5,000 party men at a meeting at district AL office also threatened to resign en masse if the reported decision to nominate Jatiya Party leader Abdul Jabbar is not changed. They branded Jabbar as a non-political person who never joined any political activity in the district. Sources claimed that nomination of businessman Abdul Jabbar as a candidate of AL-led 'grand alliance' was finalised.
With district AL vice-president Sheikh Abu Nasim Moina in the chair, the meeting was addressed by leaders of AL and its front organisations.
They claimed that the 'grand alliance' can not nominate a person like Abdul Jabbar from a constituency covering the district headquarters because he has no political background and was never involved in any movement.
They also urged district AL secretary Nazrul Islam to submit nomination paper from the Jatiya Sangsad seat and pledged that they would 'try their best' to ensure ticket for him. Nazrul Islam will win the seat in coming election, they claimed.
None but Nazrul Islam will be accepted as alliance candidate from Satkhira-2 constituency, Poura AL secretary Shahadat Hossain told the meeting.
Other speakers said they will go for tougher agitation including hartal if their demand is not met by December 27.
"Some vested quarters in the alliance are sabotaging Awami League and the grand alliance by trading on nomination", said Kamrul Islam, a front ranking leader of Satkhira Sadar upazila AL.
"We will go for action if an honest politician like Nazrul Islam is disgraced in such a dirty manner", said Sadar upazila AL president SM Shawkat Hossain.
"The situation in Satkhira-2 will turn volatile if he (Nazrul) is not nominated", Poura AL president Sheikh Nurul Haque told the meeting.
Nazrul Islam was not present at the meeting. On contact, he said, "Party leaders and activists are pressuring me to submit nomination paper tomorrow (Tuesday). I will take decision tonight".
