Former deputy minister Pintu, 12 others sued in Tangail
Ashrafuzzaman Azad, joint convener of Gopalpur upazila unit of Jubo League, filed the case with the court of Magistrate Dewan Mahmudul Haque in Tangail under Section 5/3 of the Explosives Act.
In his complaint Azad alleged that local leaders and activists of Awami League (AL) led by former AL lawmaker Khandakar Asaduzzaman brought out a procession from Gopalpur stadium on March 26 last year on the occasion of Independence Day.
The procession was attacked by the accused BNP and JCD leaders with lethal weapons it was crossing BNP office at Gopalpur Bazar. Three AL activists were seriously injured in the attack, he claimed in the complaint.
Azad also mentioned in his complaint that he could not file any case so far due to 'unfavorable situation' prevailing in the country.
The magistrate ordered the officer-in-charge (OC) of Gopalpur police station to record the case and take legal steps after investigation.
Others accused in the case are Gopalpur town BNP's secretary Sanwar Hossain Chhana, Gopalpur upazila Jubo Dal leaders Proloy Kunda, Bhogen Babu, Chand Miah, Jahangir Hossain, and Gopalpur upazila JCD leaders Jasim Uddin, Jwel Miah, and Maznu Miah.
An extortion case has been filed against Tangail municipal chairman and district joint convener of Krishak Sramik Janata League (KSJL) Jamilur Rahman Miron.
Businessman Ratan Chandra Basak of Ashekpur area in Tangail town filed the case with Tangail Sadar police station Tuesday night.
Ratan Chandra Basak complained that the municipal chairman demolished his shop at Victoria Road in Tangail town for construction of a market on assurance of a shop at the market.
Later, he went to the municipality office on May 2, 2005 and meet with the chairman. Miron called him to a room at the municipal building and demanded Tk 6,50,0000 for allocation of a shop, Ratan alleged in the case.
The municipal chairman also threatened him not to disclose the matter, rattan mentioned in the complaint.
Investigation officer (IO) of the case SI Lutful Haque visited the spot yesterday.
Miron surrendered to joint forces recently and he is in jail now.
