BNP held a rally in front of its party office in the town protesting a recent statement made by Awami League (AL) Presidium member Dr. Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir as regards auction of the house in Gulshan in Dhaka given to the widow of Brig. Khaled Mosharraf, who was killed in a army putsch in 1975.

Alamgir said at the July 15 Nilphamari AL council that the present government 'snatched' the house from her and gave it to prime minister's nephew Shahrin Islam Tuhin, who hails from Nilphamari. By doing so, the government showed utter disregard to a great freedom fighter, Alamgir had said.

At yesterday's rally, Nilphamari district BNP secretary Anisul Arafin refuted the statement calling it a 'lie'.

Quoting from a statement of RAJUK chairman, published earlier in different newspapers, Anisul Arefin said that the decision to auction the house was taken by the then Awami League government. , the decision to sell the said house in auction was taken.

The auction process took a long time. Shahrin Islam Tuhin and Nuron Newaz Selim jointly took part in the auction. As they were the highest bidders so RAJUK allotted the house in their on January 28, 2004. It was Awami League which disregarded great freedom fighter Khaled Mosharraf by deciding to auction the house when his family was residing in it, he said.
