The acting deputy inspector general and senior superintendent of Rajshahi Divisional Central Jail Rezaul Karim was stand-released and transferred to Lalmonirhat district jail yesterday for alleged irregularities and corruption in the jail.

The action followed a home ministry directive following recommendations by the Inspector General of Prisons, a day after 132 sacks of rotten and putrid ankor pulse were recovered from the jail godown. Ankor, an animal feed, was used to prepare food for prisoners.

Senior Superintendent of Satkhira jail was transferred to Rajshahi Central Jail while Lalmonirhat jail superintendent was sent to Satkhira, official sources said here yesterday.

A three-member probe team headed by the Additional IG (prison) recovered 132 sacks of substandard ankor pulse from the jail godown on Monday.

Addititional IG (prison) Col. Sirajul Karim said that Senior Jail Superintendent Rezaul Karim, Jailor Sirajul Islam and contractor Abul Hoissain who supplied the pulse were found guilty during investigation and punitive steps against them are underway.

The 132 sacks of ankor were however returned to contractor Abul Hossain. The jail authorities asked him to supply fresh Masur pulse within two days as per the deal.

Abul Hossain took delivery of the ankor and tried to sell those in the city market, sources said.
