Central Awami League leader and former state minister for information Prof Abu Sayeed yesterday blamed Jamaat-e-Islami for what he called patronising and Islamist militants in the country.

Most of the militants arrested confessed that they were either members of Islami Chhatra Shibir or involved with Jamaat earlier, he told a public meting at Dayarampur football ground in Shanthia upazila

Sayeed alleged that Jamaat Ameer Nizami at a Chatra Shibir meeting at Shanthia Imam Hossain Academy on Friday asked them to prepare for 'jihad'.

“This is a call to party cadres to prepare for capturing power through unconstitutional means”, Sayeed said.

He also claimed that Nizami distributed books written by him and former Jamaat ameer Golam Azam among brilliant school students as prizes.
