Council of Kendua upazila BNP was held on Tuesday with a faction in the unit boycotting it.

The council was held at Joyhori High School premises in Kendua town in the face of opposition by a rival faction.

Kendua upazila BNP in Netrakona district is divided into two group, one led by local lawmaker Begum Khadiza Amin and the other by Rafiqul Islam Hilali, central leader of Juba Dal, BNP's youth front.

On Monday, the faction led by Hialli brought out a big procession and held a party rally in Netrakona town demanding cancellation of the scheduled conference and urging BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and secretary general Abdul Mannan Buiyan to intervene. They alleged that local MP Begum Khadiza Amin formed party committees at unions by people of her choice and violating democratic norms.

They later claimed that Tuesday's council was poorly attended.

Netrakona BNP secretary Mahfuzul Haque and organising secretary Nazrul Islam Khan opposed holding of the council and did not attend it, they claimed.

However, at the council, Netrakona BNP president M A Karim Abbasi MP declared a 71-member committee of Kendua upazila BNP with Nazmul Haque Kachi as its president and Deluar Hossen Buiyan as secretary.
