Only 8pc work done in Rangpur

This correspondent talked to many people in the town who said enumerators did not visit their house till yesterday.

District Election Officer Subhash Chandra Sarker said 2,586

registration officials have been appointed at field level in the district to update the voter list.

About 6000 people were engaged to prepare the draft voter list a few months back, he said.

"Though it is a tough job to complete the work in 10 days, I hope they will be able to do it", he said.

The voter updating must be completed by August 10, as fixed by the Election Commission.

The district election officer said 7.8 per cent of the new voters out of 3,15,000 (listed a few months back) were enrolled in last 10 days. The work will be hastened in next 10 days as the enumerators will be relieved of their work at schools, he said. Most of the enumerators (assisting officers) have been recruited from among schoolteachers.
